DigiSuite customer support 1. Fixes in this release The following fixes are provided with DigiUtils version 4.1 (includes all fixes in DigiSuite 4.0 Service Pack 1): - The "Invert TGA field dominance" option in DigiTools is now working correctly. For example, if this option is selected when you convert a TGA sequence to an AVI file, the fields will be inverted in your destination AVI file. (Ref# 16785) - DigiTools will not crash when performing the following sequence: 1. Drag one or more clips to the playlist. 2. Play back the playlist. 3. Delete all clips from the playlist. 4. Click another DigiTools tab, such as the Convert tab. (Ref# 16754) - Scrubbing in the Adobe Premiere 5.0 Clip Window is now working. - If, during DigiUtils software installation, your Windows desktop (display area) is set to a resolution less than 1024x768, the setup will not freeze. Instead, a message will appear informing you to change your resolution to 1024x768. (Ref# 16413) - Audio that you've recorded onto tape using DVCapture is now recorded at the correct level. (Ref# 16744) - The Sony PD1 camera is now supported by the DVCapture program and the DV-1394 plug-in for Adobe Premiere RT. (Ref# 16562) - There is no longer a problem with the DigiSuite DTV drivers sometimes failing to initialize on system startup. - Problems with audio/video synchronization of clips played back from the Timeline in Adobe Premiere RT and Speed Razor RT have been fixed. - There is no longer a problem with the system crashing when you render certain Boris FX 3D effects that have multiple AVIs as surfaces, such as the Cube effect. - When you render images using Adobe After Effects with the DigiSuite plug-in, the image displayed on your NTSC or PAL monitor no longer has a blue tint. As well, RAM previews of non-standard resolution AVI files are much faster. - The following fixes have been made to the VTR driver (VTR Settings) in the DigiSuite Configuration program: - The JVC Digital-S BR D92U device can now be calibrated using the Calibration Wizard. - The Calibration Wizard uses the correct edit mode for recording (that is, Insert mode). - The Edit On Delay and Edit Off Delay values are properly saved when you save your configuration settings to a CFG file. - Clicking the Stripe Tape button after closing the Calibration Settings dialog box no longer causes the DigiSuite Configuration program to shut down. 2. Operational limitations Please be aware of the following limitations applicable to using DigiSuite cards and software provided with DigiUtils version 4.1: 2.1 DigiMix - If you choose to genlock to the internal reference signal of a DigiMix with EEPROM Revision 1.3, you'll need to calibrate the card's SC Phase in the DigiMix Output dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration program. If you later genlock to an external source, you'll need to adjust the SC Phase again. - On a DigiMix with EEPROM Revision 1.3, the video output may be misaligned with your external sync source by a few pixels. If you need the outputs to be perfectly aligned, please call DigiSuite Technical Support for instructions on how to return your DigiMix to Matrox for repair. - On a PAL DigiMix with Revision Base 2, the composite output may be misaligned with your external sync source by a few pixels. - If the video standard of your DigiSuite system is set to PAL and you have a DigiMix Revision Base 2, Module 2 or earlier, fields may be inverted unless your DigiMix is a PAL card (that is, its part number must end with "/P"). - On a DigiMix earlier than Revision Base 2, Module 2, the video is vertically misaligned by a few lines. - The analog preview output from DigiMix is not perfectly aligned with the analog main output. - When using a Sony PVW-2800 series VTR (NTSC or PAL) as a composite input source, the video may shift upward a few lines on the screen if: - menu item 701 (TBC DELAY) is set to "sync delay" on the deck, and - the Source has Built-in TBC option is selected in the DigiMix Input dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration program. The vertical shift is due to the way the VTR generates sync signals for composite video. To solve the problem, clear the Source has Built- in TBC option. Doing this, however, slightly degrades the input signal because the comb filter is turned off. For the best video quality, use Y/C or analog component input with the Source has Built- in TBC option selected. Although this problem has been reported with the Sony PVW-2800 series, be aware that it may occur with other types of VTRs. Note: You can check the revision numbers of your DigiMix in the DigiMix Information dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration program. 2.2 DigiLinx - If you have an early model DigiLinx (Version 3 or earlier) and you connect your genlock or digital video sources after starting your computer, you may need to reboot for the system to properly use the new connections. - On a DigiLinx Version 4.0, NTSC lines 19 and 20 of the key output (Output 2) are not blanked when the Key Invert option is selected in the DigiLinx Output dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration program. 2.3 DigiLinx and DigiMix in the same system - Because DigiLinx and DigiMix process video output signals differently, the digital output from DigiLinx isn't perfectly aligned with the analog output from DigiMix. 2.4 DigiMotion - The MIDI input and output are not supported. These connectors are provided on the DigiConnect/Audio breakout box for OEM use only. - The headphones output jack is not supported. - If you connect only one of the stereo digital inputs and a program tries to use the digital input that's not connected, you may obtain noise at the digital output. - If you disconnect your second digital input pair (IN 3/4) while using a program to play back or record the audio, you may obtain noise at the digital output until you exit the program. - When the sample rate at which you capture or play back audio changes, you may hear a click at the audio output. For example, if you capture audio in DigiTools at a rate of 48 kHz, then close DigiTools and use Adobe Premiere to play back or capture audio at 44.1 kHz, you may hear a click when you start the operation. 2.5 DigiDesktop - While installing Windows NT with two screens connected to the DigiDesktop, garbage video will be displayed on screen 2. This will disappear once the Windows NT installation is complete. - The input and output proc amps for DigiDesktop are handled by different components on the card. This means, for example, that adjusting the Setup control to +1.0 on the input and to -1.0 on the output will not necessarily cancel each other out. - On the Information dialog box of the Matrox Display Properties, "Next Card" and "Previous Card" refer to the circuitry on the DigiDesktop card associated with each particular screen, and not to actual separate cards. - If you notice tearing (broken video) in the DigiDesktop video windows, try setting your display adapter refresh rate to 60 Hz for an NTSC system, or 75 Hz for a PAL system. For details on how to do this, refer to your Matrox PowerDesk online guide. - If you change the mouse pointer to anything other than the standard pointer, when you move the pointer over a video window the pointer will flash and disappear, and the video may play back jerky. - Some Intergraph TDZ computer systems are incompatible with DigiDesktop. (Ref# 11373) 2.6 DigiUtils software installation - If you install DigiUtils software under an international version of Windows NT, the DigiUtils program icons won't work if the name of the destination folder for storing the DigiUtils files contains spaces. To avoid problems, simply use the default folder name provided by DigiUtils Setup (that is, \DigiSoft\DigiUtil). - When you uninstall and then re-install DigiUtils, you may get two DigiSuite icons in Control Panel (both icons will work). 2.7 DigiSuite Configuration program - After adding a new card set and running DigiUtils Setup to update your current installation, all card sets are returned to their factory default settings. For example, after adding Card Set 2, any custom settings you made for Card Set 1 will be lost. Before adding a new card set, save your current card configuration settings to a .cfg file (using the Save button in the DigiSuite Configuration program). You can then load the .cfg file to restore your settings after completing the upgrade. - The only DigiLinx input source you can select as your default video source is the device connected to 4:2:2 IN 1. DigiLinx-22 (an OEM model) cannot be used with DigiMix because this DigiLinx model does not support 4:2:2 IN 1. - You won't obtain a warning message if your genlock source's video standard isn't the same as your system's standard (NTSC or PAL). When genlocking to an external sync source, always make sure it matches your system's video standard. Using an incompatible sync source will cause your system to behave erratically. - When you close some DirectShow programs, your default video source, display source, and default audio input and output pairs may not be retained. To restore these settings, simply run the DigiSuite Configuration program and click OK. - If you select Digital Input for DigiMotion but don't hear your audio at the output when using S/PDIF digital input (and the volume is at an acceptable level), simply click the Digital Input option a few times until you hear your audio. - If you have a stand-alone DigiDesktop, make sure you do not select "Movie-2 Bus Main" or "Movie-2 Bus Preview" as your source in the DigiDesktop Output dialog box. If you do so, the DigiSuite Configuration program may freeze. The Movie-2 bus options are applicable only when using a DigiDesktop that's connected to one or more other cards with a Movie-2 bus. (Ref# 16841) - Using the Calibration Wizard to calibrate your Sony DSR-80 VTR will not result in frame-accurate recording. You should run the Frame Accuracy Test Wizard and then manually adjust your DSR-80's calibration settings to obtain frame-accurate recording. (Ref# 18113) 2.8 DigiTools - To ensure that the DigiTools dialog boxes display information correctly, make sure you set the Display Properties of your Windows desktop to use Small Fonts and one of the Windows Standard schemes. - On DigiSuite DTV, the Live controls in the Audio Level dialog box are unavailable. (Ref# 16521) - On DigiSuite DTV, DigiTools saves a clip's left and right audio channels to a stereo .wav file, not to separate mono .wav files as explained in the manual. As well, DigiTools does not support playing back mono .wav files on DigiSuite DTV. Separate mono .wav files are supported only on DigiSuite or DigiSuite LE. (Ref# 16749) - To play back audio, it must be sampled at 48 kHz with 16-bit samples. On DigiSuite or DigiSuite LE, a clip's left and right audio channels must be saved as separate mono .wav files, using the naming convention filename.A1.wav for the left channel, and filename.A2.wav for the right channel (for example, Demo.A1.wav is the left audio channel for clip Demo.avi). On DigiSuite DTV, a clip's left and right audio channels must be saved as a stereo .wav file. - Graphics must be full-screen resolution. On DigiSuite or DigiSuite LE, graphics must be 720x486 on an NTSC system, or 720x576 on a PAL system. On DigiSuite DTV, your graphics must be 720x480 on an NTSC system, or 720x576 on a PAL system. Graphics created at other resolutions are not supported. - 8-bit grayscale .tga files are not supported. - You can't play .avi files in reverse. The Play Reverse button will therefore be unavailable when an .avi file is selected. - The Convert tool does not check for illegal NTSC color values in a .tga file. - DigiTools doesn't start up with your default audio gain settings as defined in the DigiSuite Configuration program. When you start DigiTools, it uses the audio input levels you last set in the Audio Level dialog box. - When you perform a capture, audio from your VCR doesn't play back during the preroll. You will, however, hear the audio once the capture starts. - If you click the Stop button to stop a capture with device control, your VTR may stop slightly before the capture stops, causing a few frames of garbage video to appear at the end of your .avi file. - If you want to use the DigiTools Convert Tool to convert files over a network, you must first map your network drives. You can do this using the Map Network Drive command in Windows NT Explorer. Be aware that DigiTools does not support capturing or playing back clips over a network. 2.9 DigiSuite 3D Studio MAX plug-in - When using the image on your Program monitor as a device-generated background to preview your animation, you must make the following settings in the Viewport Background dialog box: - "Use Frame" value set to 1. - "To" value set to the duration of your animation. - "Start at" value set to 0. - When rendering a DigiSuite DirectShow animation, the transparency of the image displayed on your Program monitor does not reflect the actual transparency of your final animation. - The "Render Last" button to repeat the last render preview on your Program monitor is not supported. (Ref# 18822) 2.10 DigiSuite LightWave 3D plug-in - If you've used DigiUtils Setup to install the DigiSuite plug-in for LightWave 3D but you're unable to run the plug-in, you'll have to install the plug-in manually. To do this, start LightWave 3D (version 5.5 or later), choose Add Plug-in from the Options menu, then select the file named MTXLWSAV.P, located in the \PLUGINS\LAYOUT folder, under the folder where you installed LightWave 3D. (Ref# 14214) 2.11 DigiSuite VFW and Wave drivers - The maximum file size supported by VFW is 1 gigabyte (GB). To avoid problems, take care not to import files larger than 1 GB into your VFW projects. - To select the capture source for your VFW program, you must select your default video source as presently explained in the documentation, and also set your Display Source to Video in the DigiSuite Configuration program. If you'd like to capture a graphic keyed over the video, set your Display Source to Graphic keyed over video. Then use Incriber Technology's Video Clipboard for DigiSuite program to copy your graphic (with alpha key) to the DigiSuite graphic frame buffer. - On DigiSuite LE or DigiSuite DTV, you can't delete the DigiSuite Wave driver using the Remove button on the Devices tab in Control Panel's Multimedia Properties dialog box. (Ref# 15955) - DigiSuite DTV does not support audio at the following settings when using Video for Windows programs: - 11000 Hz, 8-bit mono or stereo - 11000 Hz, 16-bit mono - 22000 Hz, 8- bit mono If you try to create or play back audio files at any of these settings on DigiSuite DTV, your Video for Windows program may crash. (Ref# 16044) - DigiSuite DTV does not support the Windows NT Volume Control. - If you lower the audio input gain and capture audio at a bit depth (resolution) of 8-bits, the audio may be distorted when you play back the file. - If your VFW program uses a preallocated capture file in which to temporarily store video material during a capture, make sure the file is large enough to accommodate the largest .avi file you'll be creating. If your preallocated capture file is filled before the capture is complete, frames may be dropped in the captured video. - The DigiSuite VFW drivers don't support the Adobe Premiere 4.2 Conform To Movie option in the Recording Options dialog box. Make sure you do not select this option when capturing material on DigiSuite. - When you preview your production in Adobe Premiere 4.2 by dragging the pointer through the time ruler, effects and transitions may not display on your Program monitor. Instead, you'll see your default video input. - If while playing a clip in the Adobe Premiere 4.2 Clip window you accidentally double-click the X button to close the window (instead of just clicking the button), the program will close abnormally. - If you want to use the Adobe Premiere 4.2 loop feature to continuously play back a clip, make sure the clip is stopped before clicking the Loop button. To switch from loop playback to regular play, you must stop the clip before clicking Play. - When using Adobe Premiere 4.2 to compile a production on DigiSuite that has many transitions and effects, pressing the Escape key to cancel the operation may not work. 2.12 DigiSuite Effects plug-in for Speed Razor RT - To ensure that the DigiSuite Effects plug-in dialog boxes display information correctly, make sure you set the Display Properties of your Windows desktop to use Small Fonts and one of the Windows Standard schemes. - If you'll be combining Boris FX 3D effects with any of the DigiSuite realtime effects, you must disable multiprocessor use in Boris FX. To do this, choose Edit>Preferences, then clear the "Multiprocessor enabled" option. If this option is selected, rendering errors may occur when you render your effects. (Ref# 16365) - When exporting a project to an .avi file, the pointer on the timeline does not show the progression of the render during accelerated print-to-disk segments. (Ref# 11523) - If you export an accelerated print-to-disk segment to a file on an IDE drive, Speed Razor will crash. Be aware that you should use only your SCSI A/V drives for creating and playing back .avi and .wav files. - On DigiSuite (DigiMix-DigiMotion system), if you create a DigiSuite Filled Key effect (that is, a key effect for which the key source and foreground images are different) in a segment that requires rendering, the effect may not be rendered correctly. This problem is not applicable to accelerated print-to-disk segments. - If you add a shadow to a 2D DVE in a segment that requires rendering, the shadow won't appear in the rendered effect. This problem is not applicable to accelerated print-to-disk segments. - When using a 2D DVE with a border and/or shadow as the source for a chroma or luminance key effect, the border and shadow will not be excluded from the key. For example, when keying on blue in a 2D DVE that has a blue border, the border will also be keyed. - Depending on the capabilities of your system, applying a realtime speed change that greatly increases a clip's speed may cause many frames to be skipped when you play back the clip, especially if another .avi file is playing at the same time. (Ref# 13975) - When you render a clip on which you applied a DigiSuite tint effect, the tint color of the resulting image may not match the tint color you selected, especially if you had selected a highly saturated color. This problem is not applicable to accelerated print-to-disk segments. (Ref# 14458) - Because of the way subpixel positioning is performed on DigiSuite 2D DVEs, minor artifacts may be noticeable at the edges of your 2D DVE. You can try to eliminate these artifacts by aligning your DVE on even pixel boundaries by setting its Width, Height, Horizontal Pos, and Vertical Pos to even numbers. When creating a DVE move, align the first and last DVEs in the keyframe sequence at even pixel boundaries. - If you export video to a Video for Windows .avi file (that is, you set the video device type to "AVI Multimedia Device"), your exported file may be missing video layers or effects. This problem is not applicable to accelerated print-to-disk segments. To work around the problem, export your video to a DirectShow .avi file (for example, set the video device type to "Matrox DigiSuite"), then place the exported file onto your timeline and export it to a Video for Windows .avi file. (Ref #16647) - To ensure that fields are rendered using the correct field priority when you export video to a Video for Windows .avi file, set the Field Rendering to "Field Two Priority" to create a PAL file. To create an NTSC file, set Field Rendering to "None" or "Field One Priority." (Ref# 16846) - Segments that combine a software effect or Inscriber/CG animated title with a DigiSuite effect and a 3D DVE on which you've applied transparency using Inscriber VideoFX may not render correctly. To get around the problem, apply transparency to your effects using a video opacity graph in Speed Razor RT instead of using the "Transparency" attribute in Inscriber VideoFX. (Ref# 16831) - If while exporting video you get the error "Unable to allocate system memory for cache," set the initial size of your virtual memory paging (swap) file to the size of your computer's physical RAM, and set the maximum size of your paging file to at least twice the initial size. For example, if you have 128 MB of physical RAM, set your paging file's initial size to 128 MB, and the maximum size to a least 256 MB. (Ref# 16940) - Audio capture settings that you set by choosing Project>Editing Settings and clicking Setup beside the Audio File Format list are always used for capture. Settings applied by choosing Media>Capture>Audio Setup are ignored. (Ref# 18745) - On DigiSuite DTV, if your audio files are on a drive different than your system is set up to use, and you import a clip's .avi and .wav files separately to your project, the .wav file will be longer than the .avi file. To avoid this problem, always store your audio files on the appropriate drive (that is, either the same drive as your video or the separate audio drive your system is set up to use). (Ref# 18926) - Because of the way Speed Razor RT handles system memory, if your timeline contains a segment with software effects or an Inscriber/CG animated title, that segment, as well as all subsequent segments that require rendering, will take a long time to render. (Ref# 19394) 2.13 DigiSuite Effects plug-in for Adobe Premiere RT - To ensure that the DigiSuite Effects plug-in dialog boxes display information correctly, make sure you set the Display Properties of your Windows desktop to use Small Fonts and one of the Windows Standard schemes. - To be compatible with DigiUtils V4.1, you must upgrade your version of the Inscriber/CG software to Inscriber/CG V3.0.1.43 or later. If the DigiSuite Effects plug-in doesn't work correctly once you've upgraded your Inscriber/CG software, please contact the Matrox DigiSuite Customer Support Department for help. (Ref# 16808) - If you'll be combining Boris FX 3D effects with any of the DigiSuite realtime effects, you must disable multiprocessor use in Boris FX. To do this, choose Edit>Preferences, then clear the "Multiprocessor enabled" option. If this option is selected, rendering errors may occur when you render your effects. (Ref# 16365) - When trimming a clip, you won't see the frames you're trimming on your NTSC or PAL monitor. - On DigiSuite DTV, the Set Volume button (speaker icon) in the Clip window or Monitor window can be used only to toggle the audio between full volume and silence. When playing back audio with video, the volume change will apply only to the next playback. When playing back only the audio portion of a clip in a Clip window, there will be a delay of about five seconds before the volume change takes effect. (Ref# 16499) - On DigiSuite DTV, when combining a graphics clip with a DigiSuite DVE or any other effect that requires the clip to be rendered, make sure your graphic is full-screen resolution (720x480 on an NTSC system, or 720x576 on a PAL system). Otherwise, your graphic may appear to be shifted when you render the effect. (Ref# 16535) - If you choose to replace a missing clip when you open an Adobe Premiere RT project, make sure the replacement clip is the same length or longer than the original clip. If you replace a missing clip with a shorter clip, a corruption will be reported when you scrub or play the last frame of the replacement clip. - DigiSuite DTV does not support capturing or playing back audio at the following settings with Adobe Premiere RT: - 11000 Hz, 8-bit mono or stereo - 11000 Hz, 16-bit mono - 22000 Hz, 8- bit mono If you try to export or play back an audio clip at any of these settings on DigiSuite DTV, Adobe Premiere RT may crash. (Ref# 16044) - When you place a 32-bit TGA clip with an alpha-key channel into a superimpose track (Video 2 or higher), Adobe Premiere sets the clip's key type to "None" by default. This means the clip is not automatically alpha-keyed. To turn on the alpha-key, select the clip in the Timeline, choose Clip>Video>Transparency, then set the key type to "Alpha Channel". (Ref# 13556) - If you apply a DigiSuite DVE to a clip in the Video 1 track, Adobe Premiere sets the clip's transparency to "None" because Video 1 is not a superimpose track. If, however, you later move the clip to Video 2 or higher, you'll have to apply an "Alpha Channel" key to the clip to make the black area around the DVE transparent. You will NOT have to do this for DigiSuite DVEs that are created in a superimpose track. (Ref# 14063) - If you place an .avi file on the Video 1 track and then move it to Video 2 or higher, you'll need to change the key type from "None" to "Alpha Channel" to apply a DigiSuite chroma or luma key to the clip. - The Play to Out button on the Program side of the Monitor window doesn't work when the edit line is currently at or past the Mark Out point. (Ref# 14184 and 16824) - Premiere markers (Mark In and Out point icons) are not shown in the Source or Program side of the Monitor window. - Toggling quickly between the Source and Program sides of the Monitor window may cause the wrong frames to be displayed. You can correct this by scrubbing the clip. - Play Reverse in the Clip window does not stop playing the audio at the first frame. - If you have a dual-screen display with a Matrox display card OTHER than DigiDesktop (such as Matrox Millennium or Mystique), when you have the Clip window and Monitor window on different screens and stop playback in the Clip window, the wrong image is displayed (for example, the Clip window displays the last image played in the Monitor window). (Ref# 14373) - When you apply a speed change to a clip, the following problems occur: - Audio scrubbing in the Clip window or Source side of the Monitor window is out of sync with the video. (Ref# 14374) - The clip's duration on the Source side of the Monitor window does not reflect the speed change, but the duration on the Program side and in the Clip window does reflect the speed change. For example, if you increase the clip's speed to 800%, clicking Frame Advance in the Program view or Clip window will advance 8 frames, while the Frame Advance button in the Source view will always advance only one frame. - The Preview option does not work in all Premiere audio filters. - Performing a Ripple Edit will not move associated preview files. - The first scrub over a virtual clip is not smooth after making changes to the source area. (Ref# 14233) - If your hard drive becomes full during a batch capture the capture will stop, but the last clip listed as captured may not be fully captured. - If you encounter audio sync issues when scrubbing through the Timeline, make sure that your Audio Settings as defined in the Project Settings dialog box are set to 48000Hz, 16 Bit - Stereo. - Cancelling the DigiSuite LE Output Settings dialog box does not cancel any changes you have made to the Report dropped frames option. - When you render a clip on which you applied a DigiSuite tint effect, the tint color of the resulting image may not match the tint color you selected, especially if you had selected a highly saturated color. - Adobe Premiere RT may crash if you export a non-DigiSuite production to a Matrox DigiSuite .avi file. (Ref# 14781) - If your system includes a Matrox display card such as Matrox Millennium and you press the Esc key to stop playback of a Print to Video operation, the Program or Source window may not refresh properly. - If you export video to a Video for Windows .avi file (that is, you set the File Type to "Microsoft AVI"), your exported file may be missing video layers or effects. This problem is not applicable to accelerated print-to-disk segments. To work around the problem, export your video to a DirectShow .avi file (set the File Type to Matrox DigiSuite), then bring the exported file into your Timeline and export it to a Video for Windows .avi file. (Ref #16647) - Segments that combine a software effect or Inscriber/CG animated title with a DigiSuite effect and a 3D DVE on which you've applied transparency using Inscriber VideoFX may not render correctly. To get around the problem, apply transparency to your effects using the Fade control in Adobe Premiere RT instead of using the "Transparency" attribute in Inscriber VideoFX. (Ref# 16940) - After performing a Print to Video, the contents of the Monitor window may not be properly refreshed. (Ref# 16760) - When performing a Print to Video on your DigiSuite system, the Full Screen and Zoom by 2 options don't display video correctly on your computer screen, although the display on your NTSC or PAL monitor is fine. Be aware that there is no need to use these options when playing back video on DigiSuite. (Ref# 18651) - After building a preview, your project may play back from the beginning of the Timeline rather than starting from the area you selected in the work area bar. - If you place a clip on your Timeline that was created using a non-Matrox codec, you won't be able to add any DigiSuite effects to the clip. (Ref# 18734) - When performing an export to tape in Adobe Premiere, if you do not specify an in point in the @ time code box in the Export to Tape dialog box, the first frame recorded on your tape will be the frame where the Timeline's edit line is positioned. To avoid this problem, always specify an in point when performing an export to tape. (Ref# 18772) - The first capture that you perform after starting Adobe Premiere RT may appear choppy in the Movie Capture window. Please note, however, that the video will be fine on your NTSC or PAL Program monitor, and the captured file will play back correctly from your Timeline. All subsequent captures during the same Premiere session will appear smooth in the Movie Capture window. (Ref# 18835) - After you capture a clip, if you move the Clip window on playback, you may lose sync between audio and video. Once you save the clip and place it on the Timeline, however, audio and video are in sync. (Ref# 18919) - When performing an audio-only capture with a Capture Limit, you may experience dropped frames in the resulting .wav file. (Ref# 19010) - On DigiSuite DTV, if your audio files are on a drive different than your system is set up to use, and you import a clip's .avi and .wav files separately to your project, the .wav file will be longer than the .avi file. To avoid this problem, always store your audio files on the appropriate drive (that is, either the same drive as your video or the separate audio drive your system is set up to use). (Ref# 18926) - If your video drive becomes full while performing a capture in Premiere, the "end of disk" error message may not appear. Also, if your drive becomes full, you may not be able to save or rename your captured clip to your video drive. You can save your clip to a different drive if you have enough space, then free up some space on your video drive, and cut and paste your captured clip. (Ref# 19326 & 19329) 2.14 DV-1394 option - Do not install any Adaptec HotConnect Ultra software on your DigiSuite system. This software is incompatible with the Matrox DV-1394 card. If you have already installed Adaptec's HotConnect Ultra software, you'll have to uninstall it before installing DigiUtils. (Ref# 17074 & 19168) - The JVC GR-DVM55 camera is not supported by the DVCapture program or the DV-1394 plug-in for Adobe Premiere RT. (Ref# 16301) - DVCapture does not support a Mark In point of 00:00:00:00. Make sure you stripe the beginning of your DV tape with a few seconds of black video before recording your video material. (Ref# 16900) - There may be times when the print-to-tape stops working, especially if you have other programs running at the same time as DVCapture. For example, the print-to-tape may not start, or may stop sending video to your DV deck. If this happens, quit DVCapture and restart your computer. (Ref# 16701) - Dragging the Positioner in the DVCapture dialog box after you've performed a print-to-tape that goes to the end of your tape may cause a command error to be issued. If this happens, rewind the tape a few seconds using the Rewind button on your DV deck, or quit DVCapture and restart the program. (Ref #16889) - When performing a long capture on DigSuite DTV using the DVCapture program, the playback of the video on your Program monitor may become jerky after about 20 minutes. The captured file, however, is fine. (Ref# 16840) - When using some camcorders in VTR Mode with DVCapture, you may need to press the Frame Advance and Frame Reverse buttons more than once for the buttons to work. (Ref# 18696) - For your Canon GL1 camcorder to be recognized, it must be set to VTR Mode before starting DVCapture or Adobe Premiere. Once you've started DVCapture or Premiere, you can switch the camcorder to Camera Mode. When using Premiere, after switching your GL1 to Camera Mode, Premiere might freeze. You'll then have to shut Premiere down using Windows Task Manager and restart. (Ref# 18829 & 19053) - The DV-1394 plug-in for Adobe Premiere RT does not support Adobe Premiere's "J" keyboard shortcut for Reverse play. Instead use the shuttle slider for Reverse play. (Ref# 18834) - When performing a print-to-tape using the Panasonic PV-DV910 camcorder with DVCapture, the time code displayed in DVCapture is not correct (it resets to 00:00:00:00 at the start of a print-to-tape). (Ref# 18874) - Certain DV-1394 devices do not support recording video without audio, such as the Sony DSR-30, and the Panasonic AJ-D230HP or AJ-D230HE. (Ref# 18898) - When recording material onto tape, some DV-1394 devices may take a few extra seconds to stop the recording. (Ref# 18911) - If you are using an Intergraph TD 260 Series A computer with DigiSuite DTV, you may encounter problems recording to tape. (Ref# 18682) - When using DV-1394 device control, backward shuttle of a tape will not work if you're at the end of the tape. You can rewind for a few seconds and then use the backward shuttle feature. (Ref# 17211) - When capturing with DV-1394 device control in Adobe Premiere, if analog audio is connected to the inputs of your system, you will hear analog audio being output. Your captured files, however, include the correct DV audio. (Ref# 19019) - When using DV-1394 device control, you won't be able to hear the audio you're capturing or recording unless you monitor the audio from the device's built-in speaker (if present), or connect the audio output from your DV-1394 device to external speakers or to your NTSC or PAL monitor. - If you're using a Canon Vistura camcorder with DVCapture, you may experience dropped frames on long captures. As well, the Frame Reverse, Play Reverse, Pause, and Frame Advance buttons only work if you first press the Play, Rewind, or Fast Forward button. (Ref# 17042 & 19048) - When using DVCapture in Camera Mode to capture live DV to disk, please note that there will be a delay of about 5 seconds before your capture starts. (Ref# 19162) - When performing a batch capture in Adobe Premiere, you'll see video in the preview window while the clips are being captured, but not while Adobe Premiere searches for each clip's In point. If you've connected the analog output from your DV-1394 device to an NTSC or PAL video monitor, you'll see the video being played on your video monitor. You may want to use the toggle switches on your video monitor to switch between viewing the output from your DV-1394 device and the output from your DigiSuite system. (Ref# 19161) - On DigiSuite DTV, repeatedly pressing Play and Pause while performing a DV-1394 capture in Adobe Premiere, can result in blocky video for up to one second. This problem does not affect batch capturing. (Ref# 19138) - You may see green flashes on your Program monitor for the first few seconds of a DV-1394 capture in Adobe Premiere. Your captured file is not affected however, and will play back fine. (Ref# 18969) - Earlier models of the Sony DCR-VX1000 may not work correctly with DVCapture or Adobe Premiere. (Ref# 18992) - The Cue buttons in DVCapture may be off by a few frames when using certain DV-1394 devices, such as the Panasonic AJ-230HE. Your capture however, will be frame accurate. (Ref# 19194) - When using the JVC GY-DV500 device, device control is not supported in Adobe Premiere. The DVCapture program, supports device control with this device, but with the following limitations: - the Frame Advance and Frame Reverse buttons may move more than one frame at a time. - when performing an export to tape, the device may not stop recording once the export is complete. (Ref# 19030, 19241, 19478) - The Panasonic AG-EZ30UP (in Adobe Premiere or DVCapture) or the JVC GY-DV500 (in DVCapture) devices are not frame accurate. (Ref# 19242) - If you abort a batch capture in Adobe Premiere before it is complete, you won't be able to preview in your Movie Capture window, or on your NTSC or PAL monitor. Clicking elsewhere in Premiere, then clicking back to the Movie Capture window will return preview capabilities. (Ref# 19335) - When performing a DV-1394 capture, if you don't specify an In point for the start of the capture, you may get a few seconds of garbled audio at the beginning of the captured file. To avoid this problem, always specify an In point for your captures. (Ref# 19465) 2.15 Matrox DigiView - The Matrox DigiView window may not run if you've updated your Matrox display driver without re-installing DigiUtils. After updating your display driver, run DigiUtils Setup to re-install your DigiSuite software. (Ref# 16887) 2.16 Capturing audio from a digital source - If you capture digital audio from a CD player or any other 44.1 kHz source with a program that uses DirectShow audio, such as DigiTools or United Media Online Express, the audio will play back faster than normal (that is, at 48 kHz). This problem will not occur, however, if you capture the analog output from your player instead of the digital output. 2.17 Adding non-DigiSuite PCI cards to your system - If you add a non-DigiSuite PCI card to your computer after installing DigiUtils, it's possible that your DigiSuite system may not work properly (that is, the DigiSuite card drivers may not start). If this happens, you'll need to uninstall and reinstall DigiUtils. Be aware that if you have more than one card set, you must remove all your DigiSuite cards and then run DigiUtils Setup after installing each card set. 2.18 Using programs that require a hardware key (dongle) - When running a program on DigiSuite that requires a hardware key (dongle), you may experience a variety of problems with your system, such as green flashes when you play back video. If your program uses a Sentinel dongle, you should upgrade your Sentinel.sys driver to version PD-5.32 or later, which is available from Rainbow Technologies' Web site at www.mbo.com. If your program uses a HASP dongle, upgrade your Haspnt.sys driver to version 3.81 or later, available from Aladdin Knowledge Systems' Web site at www.hasp.com. 2.19 Displaying .avi file properties in Windows NT - The Windows NT Properties dialog box does not display the correct media length of .avi files created on DigiSuite that are larger than 1 gigabyte (GB). The media length displayed represents the clip's duration for 1 GB only. (Ref# 15858) 2.20 Performing an open-ended audio capture - If you used a DirectShow program such as DigiTools to perform an open-ended audio capture (that is, you manually stopped the capture), and work with the clip in a Video for Windows program, the program may not accurately detect the .wav file's duration. For example, the program may report that the clip is slightly longer than it really is. 2.21 Using Ulead MediaStudio Pro - Ulead MediaStudio Pro is not compatibile with DigiSuite and therefore cannot be used to create or edit DigiSuite files. 2.22 Using the Genie 3D effects card and Inscriber VideoFX - 3D effects applied to graphics using Inscriber VideoFX are not supported. (Ref# 14239) - If you use a 3D effect that has border softness, your effect may not render correctly. To get around this problem, edit the effect using Inscriber Video FX, right-click Border, then click Reset. Right-click Border again, then click Apply to all Keyframes. (Ref# 15790) - The first time you play back or scrub a warp effect (that is, a page curl, splash, sphere, burst & shear, or pinch effect), frames will be dropped at the start of the effect. This problem does not apply to other 3D effects. Once you've played a warp effect, it is loaded into the Genie card's memory so that subsequent playback will be smooth during the current work session. Because only one warp effect can be stored in memory at a time, only the last warp type you played will be smooth. For example, if you played a page curl effect, then other page curls in your production will play back smoothly, but your splash and sphere effects will have dropped frames. To avoid problems, you should use only one warp type in your production. If you must have different warp types, you can print your production to tape or export it to an .avi file in several passes. - Certain 3D effects, such as the Garage Door Effect, will produce a flash on the first frame when played back from the timeline. To get around this problem, you can adjust the clip's transparency so that the clip is completely transparent for the first few frames. To do so in Adobe Premiere (if your clip is on Video 2 or higher), adjust the Fade control so that the opacity is 0 for the first few frames of your clip. When using Speed Razor, you can adjust the Video Opacity Graph. (Ref# 16871) - A segment that contains two or more different types of warp effects, such as a page curl and a splash effect, may not render correctly. To get around this problem, export each layer that has a different warp effect to a separate .avi file, then rebuild the segment using the new clips you've created. (Ref# 14581) - If you place a clip with a 3D effect on your Speed Razor timeline, then cancel or delete the effect, you may notice a slower response time when performing actions from the timeline, such as scrubbing.
