There's little to configure at install time (except the partitioning, boot manager location, and other non-crucial settings). Once the operating system is installed, you must ensure that the package management system is fully functional. 2 - Display/Login manager ------------------------- By default, Ubuntu 14.04 comes with Unity Display Manager. Unity works well with a single GPU and up to 4 outputs, but it's less reliable when there are multiple GPUs or more outputs. The recommended alternative is Gnome Flashback (Metacity). This can be installed using your favorite package manager. Once installed, you can select Gnome Fallback (Flashback, Metacity) from the login screen. IMPORTANT: The lightdm login manager must be installed and in use for the system to work. The application needs a root access to display. This is done by passing a lightdm dependent permission information to the shell. Lightdm is normally installed by default. If it's not installed, you can install it by using your preferred package management system (apt, synaptic, etc.) and by switching it to active by running: dpkg-reconfigure lightdm When prompted to choose an option, select lightdm. Section 03 - Dependencies ========================= 1 - Mono -------- The Mono project repositories *aren't* included in the standard list of Ubuntu 14.04 repositories. They must be added. For instructions on how to add the Mono repositories, see http://www.mono-project.com/docs/getting-started/install/linux/. Once the Mono repositories are added, you can do one of two things: 1) install only the necessary files, package by package (around 30 Mb of disk space), or 2) install mono-complete all at once (around 70 Mb of disk space). Mono-complete can be installed by metapackage mono-complete. Necessary files only come in following packages: mono-runtime (version 4.4.2.11-Oxamarin1) libmono-csharp4.0c-cil libmono-microsoft-csharp4.0-cil libmono-posix4.0-cil libmono-system-core4.0cil libmono-system-net4.0cil libmono-system-windows4.0cil libmono-http4.0-cil libmono-system-net-http4.0-cil libmono-system-reactive-runtime-remoting2.2-cil libmono-system-runtime4.0-cil libmono-system-xml-linq4.0-cil libmono-corlib4.5-cil libmono-security4.0-cil libmono-system-security4.0-cil NOTE: The versions listed above may not be in use during your installation (it may be version 4.6, 4.7, etc.). Mono version 3 is included with Ubuntu 14.04, which *doesn't* support all the features in the Matrox Network API. To make sure all the Matrox Network API features are available, make sure you install the latest version of Mono. 2 - Matrox C-Series driver -------------------------- WARNING: THE MURA IPX SERIES PACKAGE SUPPORTS ONLY THE MATROX C-SERIES LINUX DRIVER (VERSION 15.302.2201) PROVIDED ON THE MATROX WEB SITE. To download the latest C-Series drivers, see the Matrox web site (http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/drivers/download/?id=667). The driver comes as a .run file. This file must be executed as root. The installation offers multiple choices. We recommend simply installing the driver (i.e. don't create a distro-specific package). IMPORTANT: If, while the C-Series driver is being installed, the system is running X, don't try to switch to a virtual terminal or kill X. Just run the installer from the terminal in graphical mode. 3 - VLC ------- The DisplayWall package needs a VLC media player. This can be installed from the default repositories using your preferred package manager. 4 - Other --------- The Mura IPX Series package needs libgtkglext1. This can be installed from the default repositories using your preferred package manager. Libnss3 package (version 2.3.23 or later) must be installed. (Ubuntu 14.04.4 comes with libnss3 version 2.3.22, by default.) Libnss3 must be installed after installing the graphics driver and mono packages. Section 04 - DisplayWall package ================================ 1 - Install ----------- To install the DisplayWall Package, simply execute the .run package as root. A reboot is required after the installation has completed. 2 - Uninstall ------------- An uninstall script is provided to remove the DisplayWall package and all components installed by it. This script is located in the same directory that was specified during installation and is called "uninstall". Run this script as root. 3 - Update ---------- If a new Mura IPX Series package becomes available, uninstall the currently installed package by running the uninstall script before installing the new package.
